Here is the author`s foreword to the book.

Dear friends!
Three years ago (in 2013) I made my writing debut. Silk ribbon and embroidery, my first book dedicated to the Wonderland of ribbon stitching was a sort of textbook on traditional ribbon art, aiming to show the privilege of stitching with natural silk ribbon and to help crafters master ribbon embroidery step-by-step. The Seasons in Ribbon Embroidery, my second book, is going to become your guide to modern ribbon embroidery style and techniques. Traditions are covered here with innovative ideas for contemporary designs.

His Majesty the Colour was the very phenomenon that captured me when I was making my first steps in ribbon stitching. It still remains undiscovered for me how ribbon colours interfere each other in the finished design. Silk ribbons laying flat on the table is nothing more but colourful stripes, while the embroidered flower bouquet has a definite influence on our souls by its colour and texture. Thus the idea came to me to join the plot of this book with the seasons, for each of them is associated with a definite colour palette.

The title of the book has two meanings: firstly, plots of the designs relate to spring, summer, autumn and winter. Then, the key note of the book is a sort of appeal to practice ribbon embroidery all the year round… for it is really worth doing :)

This book includes a lot of author’s tips and techniques. Do not leave them out of your account for they show use-proven ways of easier, quicker or more efficient stitching.
Practical side is the emphasis of the book. That is why some theoretical themes are just mentioned here for your further study. The detailed information could be found on the internet or in special literature.

I run Little Owl SmartCrafts Company, aimed on developing the field of ribbon embroidery and education. Thus an Owlet is our logo and a life principle (see the Fu-ku-ro article of the book). Seasonal owlets will meet you in Chapter 1. That is how I will send you my hello from the pages of this book.

Being ready to set to work on a project, it is highly recommended to read the instructions first. It makes things easier and helps creating changes about the design, if you would like any.

My books on ribbon embroidery are… autobiographic to some extent, as well as the collection of our ribbon embroidery kits produced by Little Owl SmartCrafts TM (www.owl-crafts.com). It seems natural if the field of your work is your second nature. Designs and ideas come to me through everyday life, my trips, meetings or even talks. Thus I would like to wish my courteous readers to have a pleasant journey through the pages of… my life!

With best wishes,
Tatiana Popova, author.
