Daisies in ribbon embroidery

Camomiles are one of the easiest yet effective flowers done in silk ribbon embroidery.

Step 1. Ribbon embroidery for flower centres 

Use water eraisable marker to draw an oval shape for daisy flower centre. Fill it in with French knots using 2 and 4mm silk ribbon. The ribbon size depends on the size of your camomile, of course.

Try to work petals not just flat, but 3-dimensional, that will make your work more vivid!

Use 4 and 7mm silk ribbon.

Step 3. Ribbon embroidery for daisy stems

Use 2 or 7mm silk ribbon for different ways of making stems.

Regarding colours: olive and dark green both work fine! Combine different colour shades to show the depth.

Use 7mm silk ribbon for twisted straight stithc and 2mm ribbon for stem stitch (the letter one can be also worked in stranded cotton thread).

Author`s tips on stitching camomiles/daisies in silk ribbon

1) Play with colour shades

Use both Bright White and Natural White silk ribbon for flower petals to show the shades.

Another option is to dye the base of each petal adding a light shade of gray.

The same thing works for flower centres. Use silk ribbon of different shades of yellow (pale yellow to saffron yellow or even brown) to bring a more natural look to your embroidered flowers.

2) Dimension for flower centres

Varying the numbers of loops for French knots you will get them of different size, thus shaping the flower centres on your own!

3) Stitching flower buds

Do not forget to add some flower buds to your daisy bouquet. Drew a sketch for your design on a piece of paper beforehand.

To work flower buds in silk ribbon firstly make a French knot and then cover it with two or three straight stitches or ribbon stitches.
